Are you afraid?

Every day we are bombarded with things that have the potential to cripple us with fear. All we have to do is turn on the news to find more than enough reasons to stay locked up and never venture out.

I imagine everyone is afraid of something, whether it is small or panic attack inducing. Since my life has been riddled with various fears, I feel like an expert on the subject. Most I have overcome, but there are a few I am still working on.

I recently read in a fiction book, of all places, the best way to overcome fear is to figure out the root of that fear and then deal with the root. Sounds like good advice, although I haven’t personally tried it.

In researching for this post I ran across this excellent website for people with serious fear and I think it’s worth checking out. https://www.psychologytoday.com/basics/fear

As a Christian I know in my mind that God says repeatedly in the Bible to not fear. I have claimed many of those scriptures, as I have matured not only a Christian but in life. If you are interested, here are two verses that have helped me, Isaiah 41.10 and 1 John 4:18. There are many more verses I have memorized, but I can’t remember the references, and my usual online searches are not helping.

One verse that often comes to mind is Proverbs 3:5, 6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; but in all your ways acknowledge Him, and he will make your paths straight.” (NIV)

What has helped you overcome fears? Or maybe you’d like to share one of your fears.
