Author Gayla K. Hiss and Dangerous Ground

Welcome to Kimberly’s Musings. This week’s feature is from my publisher Mountain Brook Ink. It’s a romantic suspense. I have yet to read Dangerous Ground, but I enjoyed the first book in this series and look forward to reading this one as well.
Hiss-2DangerousGroundSmallHere’s a little about Dangerous Ground.

Book Blurb: Uncle Owen had died mysteriously, and Deputy Marshal Kate Phillips wants to know why. After arriving at Great Smoky Mountains National Park in search of answers, Kate finds herself at the center of an ancient family feud and a land dispute. It turns out a surprising number of people have an interest in her uncle’s estate. Even David Jennings, Kate’s handsome Good Samaritan who rescued her when she arrived, thinks he has a claim on Owen’s property—which some say is cursed.
Amid the mounting secrets and rumors circulating in the seemingly peaceful community, Kate has a secret of her own—one that could threaten her life and any future she might have with David. It soon becomes clear someone is targeting her. Could Kate’s troubled past have come back to haunt her, or have the clues she’s uncovered about her uncle’s suspicious death put her life in danger? To solve the mystery, Kate needs David’s help. But can they pull together before time runs out? Or will they become the next victims when it all explodes?
I’m not sure Gayla will remember, but I first met her at a writer’s conference in Bellevue, Washington. My publisher had asked me to accompany her to the conference so I tagged along. 🙂 Gayla sat the same table as me for lunch or dinner table–I don’t recall exactly. We began to talk, and I asked her about what she was writing. The more I talked to her the more I knew I had to connect her with my publisher. So I got my publishers attention and whispered in her ear that she needed to talk to this woman about her book. A few months later Gayla had a contract and the rest is history.

I loved reading about this–and I remember that lunch clearly when Kimberly came and whispered to me that I needed to come to her table and talk to a lady there who had a book she thought I might be interested in. It didn’t take me long in talking to Gayla to realize she might have something special–and after getting her proposal, I was even more convinced. So glad she and her books are part of our publishing company!

I remember that lunch very well! Hearing Kimberly’s positive experiences at Mountain Brook Ink motivated me to pitch my book to you, Miralee. I knew after talking with you both that our meeting was a “Divine Appointment” and a great blessing to me, which continues to this day.

Kimberly, I have read (proofread) Dangerous Ground. It is very interesting (I couldn’t resist after our email exchange today). Since you enjoyed Gayla’s first book, I believe you will enjoy this one also. I enjoyed both of them, maybe this one a little more because the setting is closer to home and I have visited that area on several occasions. The story will keep you reading once you start.

Hi, Kimberly! I was away at the beach to celebrate completing my third book and didn’t have cell service, so I just saw this! I’m thrilled to be featured on your blog! I remember the lunch when we met very well, and you’ve continued to be a great help and encouragement to me! Thank you!
