Living an Abundant Life Part 4 Mental Health
You might have noticed I missed posting last week. Once upon a time that would have made me super stressed and I would have dropped everything to get that post written. Not so much anymore. Sure I will always meet deadlines for other people, but when it’s just for me, I no longer stress it. Why?
Stressing the small stuff is simply not worth the mental toll.
I’ve learned to let some things go. Will the world come to an end if I don’t get a post up on my blog? No. Will someone be harmed if I don’t get my post up on my blog? No. This kind of litmus test is what I use to determine what is and isn’t important enough to drop everything to deal with. LOL I realize the world coming to an end is overly dramatic, but I hope you see my point. If something isn’t life or death and it won’t cause anyone else a problem then I will no longer worry if life got in the way and prevented me from accomplishing something I had intended to do.
Last week was a challenging week not only because of the holiday but because the day I’d planned to write my post our beloved dog died. I didn’t even remember the blog until Monday and decided to skip it. Giving myself permission to drop the ball so to speak allowed me to go forward with my week in a good mental spot and focus on what needed to be accomplished.
Here are seven tips in no particular order to help maintain good mental health:
- Let the little stuff go.
- Keep focused on what is truly important.
- Forgive yourself when you mess up.
- Block out all the “noise” and spend time reading your Bible and talking with God.
- Breathe. Yes, I do mean literally breathe. Slow down and focus on your breathing. Take slow deep breaths.
- Practice positive thinking.
- Talk with a professional counselor or therapist.
Practicing the above will enhance your mental health thereby giving you a more abundant life. My list is in no way complete. What have you found that helps your mental health?
